“You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can’t be hidden. People don’t light a lamp and put it under a basket but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before people in such a way that they will see your good actions and glorify your Father in heaven.”
~ Matthew 5:14-16 Parkview United Church of Christ has been active in the community for nearly 70 years We are inclusive We respect all religions and beliefs. One small example is posting a Blessed Ramadan banner on our lawn each spring. We’ve heard from those in the Islamic community how much they appreciate seeing their own faith respected and honored by those of another faith We are inspired For over 50 years the Parkview Silent Auction has raised money for local charities. We have knitters, quilters, potters, woodworkers, cooks, bakers and other creative people who love to share their God-given talents. Each year we give $4000-$6000 to local food shelves, shelters, refugee families and schools. We are involved Our ministries include making 1000 sandwiches in 30 minutes for the Love One Another Food Program after Sunday service for the Twin Cities’ homeless. We also make and distribute care bags for Ukrainian refugees arriving in MN as well as those experiencing homelessness, and we are a collection site for White Bear Lake Area food shelves. We are allies As Christians we are obligated to provide safe worship space for all children of God. Parkview is proud to be an "Open and Affirming" church, welcoming the LGBTQIA community. The rainbow banner in our logo is an intentional reflection that we are "that church." We love children Our congregation volunteers as Reading Buddies with Willow Lane Elementary School. We provide luncheons for teachers and staff to make their long days a little easier. We host back-to-school and winter gear drives. Recently we made 20 unique, colorful and comfortable blankets for incoming Kindergartners to use at nap time. We love to learn We study other religions and beliefs to grow in understanding and appreciation for all. All are invited to attend our Lenten Series soup suppers. After the shared meal we study topics such as restorative justice, children's mental health, environmental stewardship, estate planning/wills, LGBTQIA issues, overcoming racism in our community and more. We open our doors We’ve sponsored refugee families from Vietnam and Ethiopia, locating housing, furniture, clothes, food and vehicles. We open our building to community organizations including AA, Al-Anon, Taking Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS), Silver Harmony Singers, Old-Time Auto Club, Boy Scouts and others. Our doors are open to all - whoever you are, wherever you are on life’s journey, YOU are welcome here!
